This budget hotel chain is highly recommended and presents excellent value for money for the budget conscious. It is situated in an exciting part of Singapore that provides a glimpse into the local flavor of the island.The hotel exterior is modern and somewhat stands out against some of the quaint and colorful two-storey pre-WWII shop houses. The building is multi-colored and in excellent condition.The lobby has a fully manned front desk around the clock. There is a row of clocks featuring different countries time on the wall. It has limited seating.

The peranakans were the descendants of the Chinese merchants who came here to trade and took on the local Malay wives as well as adopting the culture. Peranakan culture - the food, jewellery, furniture as well as houses have been the hallmark of the Katong and Joo Chiat area. Walking around the neighbourhood, one can find many examples of the mix of Chinese and the Malay tradition.
